This distinction marks an important milestone in Hachem Amzil’s artistic career. His work explores the Arabic letter as a visual and plastic element that transcends its linguistic function to become an independent visual energy, where movement, colour, and abstraction come together. Through his artistic practice, he seeks to explore the expressive possibilities of the Arabic letter within contemporary compositions, creating a dialogue between the authenticity of his cultural heritage and modern forms of artistic expression.

The tribute also carries particular significance as it forms part of an event dedicated to Moroccan calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation, two essential components of Morocco’s visual heritage and artistic and spiritual identity.

As part of the activities of the third annual Forum of Moroccan Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, held on 27 and 28 October 2026 at the Administrative and Cultural Complex of the Habous in Casablanca, Moroccan visual artist and calligrapher Hachem Amzil received a special tribute in recognition of his artistic journey and following his distinction with the Mohammed VI Prize for Excellence in Contemporary Calligraphy.

The event was held under the theme “The Blessed Sandals of the Prophet: The Beauty of the Letter and the Depth of Love”, within a cultural and artistic framework dedicated to highlighting the beauty of Moroccan calligraphy and the authenticity of Islamic ornamentation, while showcasing the aesthetic, spiritual, and cultural dimensions of this heritage, deeply rooted in Moroccan identity.

The tribute was organised at the initiative of the Centre for Documentation and Activities, under the Administrative and Cultural Complex of the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in Casablanca. This gesture of recognition reflects the institution’s interest in Moroccan artistic talent and its commitment to supporting creative practices that contribute to preserving artistic heritage while developing it through contemporary approaches.

On this occasion, Hachem Amzil expressed his deep appreciation for this initiative, extending his sincere gratitude to the Centre for Documentation and Activities and to everyone involved in organising the forum. He also praised their efforts to support art and artists and their commitment to providing spaces for cultural exchange, dialogue, and the celebration of Moroccan creativity.

Beyond being a moment of celebration, this kind of recognition represents an appreciation of artistic dedication and a source of motivation to continue exploring and experimenting, while strengthening the presence of the Arabic letter within the contemporary visual arts scene. It also opens up new possibilities for dialogue between heritage and modernity.
